2nd sampling campaign

By MurMap

August 29, 2022

Between August 1st and 5th 2022, the second sampling campaign of the MURmap project took place. As in the first sampling campaign, water and stream and suspended sediments were collected at the same sites as in the first campaign, starting near the source of the Mur River in the Hohe Tauern Mountains in Austria, including an additional (new last) point, next to the Slovenian-Croatian border. The fieldwork team consisted of project members from the Geological Survey of Slovenia (GeoZS) and the Montanuniversität of Leoben (MUL).

Sampling proceeded smoothly due to good weather conditions. The water regime of the river was lower than during the 1st sampling campaign, which is particularly important for sampling stream sediments. Samples of stream sediments must be representative, i.e., collected from at least several sites around the sampling point, which can be a problem when water levels are high.

We are looking forward to our third sampling campaign, which will take place in February 2023.
